Traditionally, metal braces have been one of the only effective options to straighten teeth. Now, with the advent of advanced orthodontic technology, patients have a variety of options to help them achieve a beautiful smile. Traditional braces, clear braces and Invisalign® invisible braces are all offered at our practice in Wappingers Falls, near Poughkeepsie and Hopewell Junction.
Orthodontic braces are a popular method of treatment consisting of brackets, ligatures, and wire that create the pressure necessary to realign the teeth, and are effective at correcting malocclusions such as crooked teeth, overbites, under bites, cross bites, open bites and other cosmetic or structural flaws. Braces have evolved to meet both the health and aesthetic needs of patients. Fully customizable, braces come in a variety of styles, allowing patients to choose brackets and ligatures that subtly complement their smiles or reflect their personality with a variety of shapes and colors.
- Traditional Braces - Manufactured from stainless steel and nickel titanium for their strength and durability, traditional braces are the most widely used type of teeth aligner. Conventional braces utilize ties and brackets that hold an arch wire in place, which applies slight yet constant pressure on the teeth to realign them into place.
- Clear Braces - Patients who are resistant to the idea of conventional braces for aesthetic reasons may prefer clear braces. As opposed to traditional braces which are made of metal, clear braces are made from ceramic or plastic and utilize clear elastic and white metal ties so that they are less conspicuous.
Our experienced dentists adjust the braces over the duration of treatment until the intended results are achieved. Treatment lasts an average of 18-24 months, with results that last a lifetime. As with all orthodontic straightening appliances, a retainer is required after treatment to prevent the teeth from shifting out of position. Contact Quality Dental Care, P.C. to learn more.
The Invisalign® system uses a series of clear plastic retainers to straighten teeth. The retainers are created in a laboratory once impressions of the patient’s bite have been made. The bite impressions are used by Invisalign® 3D computer imaging software to develop exact specifications for each retainer in the series.
Each Invisalign® retainer gently exerts pressure upon the teeth and is worn for approximately two weeks. The retainers are to be worn at all times, except when the patient is eating, brushing, or flossing. At the end of the two-week period, the current retainer is discarded and replaced by the next one in the series. The total number of retainers to be worn depends upon the patient’s individual needs and goals, but usually no more than 30 retainers are required. Treatment can often be completed with as few as 18 retainers. Invisalign® invisible braces have a number of benefits, and are truly designed with the patient's comfort in mind. The retainers are easily removable so that patients can eat, brush, and floss their teeth as they normally would if they were not undergoing orthodontic treatment. Invisalign® retainers are also very comfortable – patients usually forget that they are wearing them!
To many patients, perhaps the biggest benefit of Invisalign® invisible braces is the fact that they are virtually undetectable. The Invisalign® system is appropriate for teenagers and adults who wish to have their teeth straightened without their friends or co-workers noticing.
